Great Lakes WIND Network
The wind industry presents an outstanding opportunity to re-invigorate and revitalize a segment of the region’s manufacturing infrastructure. Wind power is one of the fastest-growing industries in the United States. The tall towers across the landscape represented to WIRE-Net thousands, yes millions, of machined, casted, forged and fabricated parts like gears and bearings. There are over 8,000 components found in today’s wind turbine. WIRE-Net formed the Great Lakes WIND Network (GLWN) as an industry-based organization of manufacturers, suppliers and research organizations. Its mission is to serve this market by growing the supply chain. The Network - links industry OEMs with component suppliers
- joins with public and private partners to generate new investment
- supports public policy initiatives which are key to expanding the wind industry
