Future Workforce
A never-ending stream of qualified workers will be needed as manufacturers grow, and current workers retire. WIRE-Net recognizes that the employees of tomorrow are the youth of our region. Bright and talented young people abound in our schools, but most are not aware of the opportunity that a career in manufacturing brings. We have taken the lead in an effort to correct that with two programs. - Students entering the ninth or tenth grade enjoy a summer program, AIM Camp, which exposes them to hands-on experience in a machine shop
- Juniors and seniors at an area technical high school can enter a program, STC, which combines soft job skills with the school’s technical curriculum
In the latter program, students are provided plant tours, shadowing and mentoring, and paid work experiences.
