WIRE-Net member companies increasingly seek help to reduce costs, streamline
operations, enter new markets, and increase profits.
The manufacturers' network of networks is why a record 989 different
companies turned to WIRE-Net for help, support, answers, or connections last
year. Increasing Profit and, at times, even decreasing Losses were the drivers
behind most companies to use this manufacturer-led organization.
Solutions or options: those were the requests. 2009 had many bright spots
(although there could have been more) and seemed most common in companies
WIRE-Net supported through:
- Leading and learning around diversification into markets that included:
medical, alternative energy, and aerospace. Business services were up 303%.
- Creating alternative markets for the company overinvested in auto,
construction, or other down markets.
- Reduced expenses through applied Lean techniques to reduce wasted time,
movement and materials. (A faster rebound through using Lean and Quality systems
for small but steady improvements was the intention at several companies).
- Support and coaching that had helped plan cash reserves.
- Finance options created to buy materials to convert into sales or for a few
in 2009, just to continue profitable growth. Companies drove delivery of Finance
services up 323%.
WIRE-Net revenues were also down in 2009. Companies' ask from staff and the
network saw huge increases in several areas. Total services were up 177% to 705
for the year. Do more with less was our reality in a year that required benefits
reductions and other expense reductions from manufacturers as well as from
WIRE-Net staff. Our outreach to manufacturers includes the feet on the street
and communications: both were increased to meet your needs.
Your company is quite likely to be one of 989 different manufacturers using
WIRE-Net last year. Manufacturers who got the most out of their membership had
several people in their company tuned into WIRE-Net's many programs as their
source for connections and answers. 1,527 different industry leaders were served
in 2009.
Areas of most value to manufacturers were: a) Access to WIRE-Net staff for
technical and manufacturing support, b) Make the connections - from a supply
chain entry process to community issue topics, and c) Network connections for
manufacturer to manufacturer (M2M) needs.
