Future Workforce

A never-ending stream of qualified workers will be needed as manufacturers grow, and current workers retire.  WIRE-Net recognizes that the employees of tomorrow are the youth of our region.  Bright and talented young people abound in our schools, but most are not aware of the opportunity that a career in manufacturing brings.  We have taken the lead in an effort to correct that with two programs.

  1. Students entering the ninth or tenth grade enjoy a summer program, AIM Camp, which exposes them to hands-on experience in a machine shop
  2. Juniors and seniors at an area technical high school can enter a program, STC, which combines soft job skills with the school’s technical curriculum

In the latter program, students are provided plant tours, shadowing and mentoring, and paid work experiences.

Mission Reminder By engaging the youth of our communities, we fulfill the WIRE-Net mission in two ways.  First, we provide a stream of ready-to-work, prepared, and capable workers to our manufacturers.  And, secondly, we help build healthy communities, whose residents have employment prospects.  WIRE-Net is here to connect our young people to opportunity

Youth WorkforcePrograms: Where Futures Matter

As a non profit economic development organization, WIRE-Net recognizes the importance of working with youth and its impact on building a stronger workforce for our members. It is essential that we get these students trained and prepared to enter the workforce as responsible, hard working individuals with the foundational knowledge and aptitude to make a positive contribution to your team.

WIRE-Net has 2 youth programs, which focus on different age groups.

AIM Camp exposes youth to manufacturing by orienting them to basic shop math with hands on experience in a machine shop. AIM's program is offered in the summer to students entering the 9 th or 10th grade. Click here for more details.

STC works with students at Max S. Hayes Career and Technical High School and focuses on those critical soft skills students need to succeed in their careers as they get the technical training from the school's curriculum.

Students involved in the STC program are given the opportunity to experience:
