Industrial Corridor
WIRE-Net recognizes that our manufacturing base
is comprised of a series of industrial corridors. These corridors
not only constitute our primary resource of industrial space, but
are already home to over 1000 manufacturing companies. We recognize
that any growth in this sector of our economy must take place within
the built environment and will be driven primarily by the expansion
and modernization of existing companies. As such, this program serves
as a roadmap for WIRE-Nets physical (re)development efforts.
Modeled after a successful program in the Chicago
area, the goal of this initiative is to focus on both public and
private investment opportunities to enhance existing industrial
districts within Clevelands urban core. The program has three
primary objectives:
- Systematically improve the public infrastructure of these
industrial corridors in order to: (a) provide economical, convenient
and rational access; (b) establish a rational traffic pattern
within these neighborhoods; (c) enhance the safety, appearance
and services provided to local companies.
- Encourage the modernization of industrial buildings to
make them more externally attractive and energy efficient while
ensuring harmony with the surrounding neighborhood. Also, provide
physical amenities, such as attractive streetscapes, signage and
gateways to strengthen each corridors physical identity.
- Facilitate the development of underutilized
industrial corridor properties.
