Plant Tour: Gotta Groove Records

Creative Hiring Builds Local Support

Join WIRE-Net for a tour of Gotta Groove Records' (GGR) manufacturing plant, which, when it opened in Cleveland in 2009, was the first new vinyl pressing plant in the United States in decades. It's been nine years and business is booming. The company just added a fourth quality-control room to test records, and is considering adding a third shift of production to meet demand. In 2016 GGR manufactured nearly a million vinyl records at its pressing plant and was on target to produce a million in 2017.

GGR has produced records for big national names, including Fleetwood Mac, Andrew McMahon, and Eric Clapton. But the company's main focus has always been on local acts. Its roster includes local rock bands bwak dwagon, Herzog, and Seafair. Additionally, the company hires local musicians to work in the pressing plant—which has been central to the strength of the GGR team and helped in earning the support of the local music community.
