Our Safety Roundtable Series provides a unique opportunity to come together with peers and an expert to share experiences, expertise, and learn what you don't know about manufacturing safety. Discuss safety topics and find solutions to your safety-related issues to prepare for your next OSHA visit and save on violation costs. Each session has its own focus, but we encourage you to bring your challenges and request relevant information for your company.

Health and Safety Plans: 10 Step Business Plan
OSHA has been encouraging employers to develop formal Safety and Health plans since they introduced the non-mandatory guidelines in the late 1990's. An OSHA Safety Plan is a written document that describes the process for identifying the physical and health hazards that could harm workers, procedures to prevent accidents, and steps to take when accidents occur. The written safety plan is your blueprint for keeping workers safe. During this session you will learn what goes into these plans and see an example of what they look like in the form of the BWC 10 step business plans.

OSHA Top 10: What's the Cost and What to Fix?
It's the age-old question . . . What's it going to cost me? Especially after OSHA raised its fine structure 80% in recent years. We will first look at OSHA's current "Top 10" list for general industry violations, then break down each sub-section looking at what parts of the standard are frequently cited and for how much. Finally, we will review my "master list" of OSHA fines, identifying some common and not so common violations.

Accident Investigations and Root Cause Analysis
In this session, we will review the proper methods for completing an effective accident investigation and root cause analysis. Participants will see examples of how to take proper photographs and what to include in your investigation other than what the injured worker describes such as maintenance records, previous near misses, the OEM manual, and environmental factors.

About Our Trainer

Jon Carpenter, Senior Safety Consultant for Spooner Risk Control & Safety Services, has 17 years of experience in occupational safety. Jon started his career in Safety as a Ramp Safety Manager for Continental Airlines Cleveland Hub, where he was responsible for ensuring the safety and health of all employees on the tarmac who worked below the wing of the aircraft. After several years as a Senior Safety Specialist, Jon was promoted to Regional Safety Manger for Continental Airlines. Over the next 15 years Jon managed Safety and Compliance for 25 Continental operations including the Cleveland Hub, Northeast U.S. Maintenance Operations, and all operations in Canada. Jon has formal education, certifications, and trainings in safety. His work has included experience in providing client safety program reviews and development to ensure compliance with OSHA standards, OSHA style inspections, citation abatement responses, ergonomic evaluations, investigation of accidents / incidents, and training on a wide variety of regulatory required standards and topics.
