WIRE-Net's Annual Meeting

More than 300 people turned out at The Renaissance Hotel on Public Square in Cleveland to celebrate manufacturing growth with WIRE-Net . . . and more than 60 people made positive comments about their April 29th experience on the post event survey.

"The presentation by the County Executive (Armond Budish) was insightful. Jodi's enthusiasm was contagious and was the highlight for me. (Keynote speaker and Vitamix CEO Jodi Berg) I already own a Vitamix, but if I didn't I would probably go get one! Her explanation of how Vitamix 'had to expand' to realize its mission was powerful and something we can all aspire to."

Another attendee enjoyed the full hour of networking time and remarked, "The venue enables everyone the ability to network effectively." A common theme of the program focused on the changing needs and availability of the workforce.

Always a highlight, WIRE-Net recognized manufacturing leaders who demonstrate WIRE-Net's mission through their work and accomplishments. Mission Builder Award Winners are committed to growing their businesses in Northeast Ohio, and have invested in themselves and in our community. Awards were presented by WIRE-Net Board Chair, Tim Rosengarten, and President, John Colm to:

Diamond Metals Distribution, Inc. – Since 2013 Diamond Metals has invested over $2 million for the purchase and installation of state of the art CNC machining Centers and CNC saw cutting equipment, and completed a 5,000 square foot steel warehouse expansion to conclude a $550,000 investment in the property.

Hose Master – now collectively occupies more than 400,000 square feet in facilities in Cleveland, Atlanta, Houston, and Reno, and employs more than 400 people - making it one of the largest metal hose and expansion joint manufacturers in the industry. Hose Master engaged with WIRE-Net and Towards Employment to develop a customized program under WorkAdvance to address the challenge of finding qualified entry-level workers and skilled welders. Existing workers were offered the opportunity for on-site training that could transition them from general labor jobs making ($10-11/hr) into welding positions paying up to $21/hr.

PPG Industries, Cleveland, Ohio – this automotive coatings plant is PPG's largest manufacturing and technical center for automotive coatings in North America, and is situated on a 42-acre site in the city's West Park area. In 2014 PPG completed a $25 million expansion within the Cleveland operation to support an overall increase in product demand in 2014. Currently the Cleveland site employs 800 full time associates and contractors.

Over the years WIRE-Net has had many strategic partners who've had a broad positive impact on the organization. This year WIRE-Net's Strategic Partner Award was given to Jill Rizika of Towards Employment, specifically for our work together in a program called WorkAdvance. WIRE-Net works closely with Towards Employment by identifying job opportunities, vetting candidates, and matching these candidates with manufacturers. We leverage our manufacturing expertise and employer relationships, and Towards Employment delivers quality direct services to job seekers and entry level incumbent workers in response to WIRE-Net member needs.

Our Sponsors are very important to the success of this event and to WIRE-Net's mission. Thank you very much to our presenting Sponsor, PNC Bank, and our other sponsors, AT&F, Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, Talan Products, Felber PR & Marketing, Midwest Box Company, Simplex-IT, and Weston Hurd LLP.
