Conveyer & Caster - Equipment for Industry Rolls to Success

For the second year in a row, Conveyer & Caster - Equipment for Industry has been named to the Weatherhead 100 as one of the fastest growing businesses in Northeast Ohio. "To receive this award two years in a row is a great honor to the hard work and dedication of our entire organization," said Jeff Stohr, President of Conveyer & Caster - Equipment for Industry. According to Trevor Stohr, brother of Jeff and Vice President of Operations, "I'm absolutely thrilled at the news! It was a tough year, 2008, but the effort was more than worth it."

Conveyer & Caster - Equipment for Industry is a third-generation, family-owned material handling firm. They have been in business since 1961. Conveyer & Caster was founded by Jeff and Trevor's grandfather Albert Stohr, Sr. Albert Stohr, Jr. took the reins after the sudden passing of his father in 1964. And in 2004 Jeff and Trevor took over the company. Looking to grow the business, in 2006, Conveyer & Caster acquired Equipment for Industry, another Cleveland based material handling firm. This opened new doors in the material handling marketplace. Conveyer & Caster - Equipment for Industry now specializes in the distribution of material handling equipment, such as casters, pallet rack, conveyors, cranes, hoists, and dock equipment. They service Ohio, New York, and Pennsylvania through offices in Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Toledo, Pittsburgh, Erie, and Syracuse.

FirstEnergy Rider Exemptions Available:
Is Your Company Eligible?

The Ohio Manufacturers' Association (OMA) is now ready to help manufacturers determine if they are qualified to avoid the upcoming new FirstEnergy rider, the costs of which are thought to be potentially substantial.

Because utilities are required, under new Ohio law, to meet energy-efficiency targets starting this year, utilities are permitted by the PUCO to take credit for energy savings on retrospective customer-initiated energy efficiency projects. In exchange, the utilities will exempt those companies from paying a new energy efficiency rider for a period of time.

The program will be available only to FirstEnergy "mercantile" customers (commercial or industrial customers that consume more than 700,000 kWh of electricity a year for nonresidential purposes, or are part of a national account involving multiple facilities in one or more states) and then only to those with a minimum of 500,000 kWh identified annual savings on customer-initiated energy efficiency projects (implemented on or after January 1, 2006). (See note on Interest Form regarding projects smaller than 500,000 kWh.)

Safety Intervention Grant$ from the
Bureau of Workers' Compensation

CIRI Financing Icon

Do you know about the Bureau of Workers' Compensation Safety Intervention Grant$ Program? The Safety Intervention Grant$ Program for Ohio employers is available to employers who want to purchase equipment to substantially reduce or eliminate injuries and illnesses associated with a particular task. To participate in the program an employer must pay into the Ohio State Insurance Fund, maintain active coverage, be current on all monies owed BWC, and demonstrate the need for a safety intervention.

With the safety intervention grant, private and public employers are eligible for a 2-to-1 matching grant, up to a maximum of $40,000, meaning a total of $60,000: $20,000 from the employer and $40,000 from BWC. The employer will benefit through a substantial reduction or elimination of workplace injuries and illnesses, and their related costs.

For manufacturers this could mean the reduction of cumulative trauma disorders (CTDs), injuries such as back injuries, tendinitis, and carpal tunnel syndrome, as well as a reduction in expenses associated with injuries including days lost due to CTDs and turnover. CTDs in manufacturing can be associated with such activities as manual material handling, hand tool usage, awkward postures and prolonged equipment operation.

For more information on how you can take advantage of the BWC Safety Intervention Grant$ Program visit the Ohio BWC website or contact Kareemah Williams at 216.588.1440 ext. 117.
