Emerging Markets:
US Endoscopy Tour

Culture, strategy, and innovation are making US Endoscopy a premier mid-sized company in the medical instruments market. WIRE-Net along with WINOC, sponsored a tour of their Mentor Ohio facility on March 18, 2010. It was a great tour conducted by members of the staff and it gave us a peak at what makes them successful.

Dedicated Culture

Most of US Endoscopy's production is in a controlled environment, to keep its product free from dust. We were required to scrub and gown up for the tour, which made the visit all the more fun and memorable. The team that assembles product is mostly women—small parts require smaller hands and well-honed dexterity. "Small" took on whole new meaning when we observed one woman threading a small ferrule onto a very small tattoo needle, used to mark areas internally when monitoring an area of the body affected by illness or disease. ...

Max Hayes High School in Cleveland Gets Help Updating Career Training

By Thomas Ott, The Plain Dealer

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cleveland schools' primary career and technical education center is in the shop, getting a good going-over by internationally known experts.

Big Picture Learning will recommend how Max S. Hayes High School can better serve students and employers. The program changes would be in place in three years, when Max Hayes moves from along the West Shoreway to a new school near West 65th Street and Clark Avenue.

Big Picture helps career tech and other schools develop a regimen of personal attention and real-world experience. Schools that strictly observe its standards and practices claim an average graduation rate of 92 percent, well above Max Hayes' 77 percent.

WIRE-Net, a Cleveland group that assists manufacturers, hired the consultants with the school district's blessing, using foundation and corporate money.

Students’ Futures Up in the Air—Literally

On March 30, 2010 WIRE-Net’s School-to-Career students blew into Elyria Ohio to check out Lorain County Community College’s (LCCC) new degree in Alternative Energy Technology – the Wind Turbine Major. School-to-Career students were in good company with this tour; just a few months earlier President Obama was in town to tour this exciting program, as well.

Regional Sewer District Supports Cleveland's Industrial Customers

The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District operates three wastewater treatment plants and related water pollution control facilities on Lake Erie and the Cuyahoga River. Through its efforts, the District assures clean water for Greater Cleveland. They serve more than one million people in 62 communities, treating approximately 94 billion gallons of water annually.

That's a lot of customers and a lot of water! But the District also serves businesses. The Greater Cleveland area is home to many industries that deserve special attention because of (1) amount of water consumption and wastewater discharged into the sewer system, and/or (2) specific substances created as byproducts of their manufacturing or industrial processes.

Here are a few ways the District can assist its many industrial customers.
