School-to-Career: Schools
Since 1990, WIRE-Net has been a major partner with Max
Hayes High School, a vocational high school on Cleveland's west side.
WIRE-Net was instrumental in bringing the TEAM Academy to Max Hayes,
and with TEAM Academy, a curriculum that includes:
- Basic set-up and operation of manual lathes, vertical mills,
drill presses, power saws, and grinders.
- Basic knowledge of print reading, applied mathematics, and
proper use and handling of cutting tools, precision measurements,
and gauges.
- Access to in-depth training in welding, CAD, CNC programming,
and machining
While the students are receiving their trade specific
training, WIRE-Net provides additional services to prepare them for
the world of work. We bring new students into the program and
recognize the hard work of existing students through:
- Life-skills and employability training
- Industry events
- Annual awards ceremony
- Trips to
out-of-town events, such as the State of Ohio Youth Summit.

WIRE-Net is currently exploring relationships
with other high schools in the area and is interested in working with
teachers, administrators, and other school partners to expand the
School-to-Career model. For more information on how your school
can explore the WIRE-Net School to Career model, please contact Rebecca
Kusner at 216-588-1440 ext. 111.
