Manufacturing Works Apprenticeship Consortium

The Manufacturing Works Apprenticeship Consortium is a network of manufacturing companies working together to provide career opportunities for individuals in our community. The consortium is organized by Manufacturing Works to make apprenticeships easier for companies to manage. We handle the administration; companies focus on on-the-job training and mentoring.

The consortium is a nationally recognized apprenticeship program registered with the U.S. Department of Labor that trains individuals in skills manufacturers look for and are critical to the growth of our Greater Cleveland Manufacturing sector. Apprenticeships include paid on-the-job training and related technical training.

For Employers

Employers participate by identifying skill requirements, hiring new workers or selecting current workers as apprentices, and providing mentors to deliver on-the-job learning. Manufacturing Works can also assist with identifying candidates.

Employer Benefits

  • Direct solution to labor shortage, customized to a company's specific needs. Minimal public sector involvement.
  • Production: Companies gain the value of output by apprentices and later by apprentice graduates, including a reduction in errors, and a quicker ROI of training dollars.
  • Workforce: Companies who host apprenticeships experience improved recruitment and reduced turnover, gain a pipeline of skilled employees, and develop future managers.
  • Soft skills: Apprenticeships lead to improved employee engagement, greater problem-solving ability, flexibility to perform a variety of tasks, and a reduced need for supervision.

What is the cost for companies to join?

  • There is a one-time $2,000 consortium affiliation fee to join.
  • Other costs vary widely due to factors including occupation type, wages, and number of apprentices.
  • Costs include college tuition and/or any other training and credentials fees, wages for the apprentice, administrative fees based on percentage of apprenticeship wages.

There is funding available to offset the cost for companies. Until the end of 2018 the $2,000 consortium fee is being waived. Employers interested in joining the consortium should contact Linda Dyczkiewycz, Apprenticeship Program Manager, at 216.920.1963.

For Individuals

Apprenticeships offer an opportunity to earn a degree and learn on-the-job skills in critical manufacturing processes and related tasks for high-demand opportunities in the manufacturing industry.
